Full coverage on Barack Obama's moving speech.("A More Perfect Union")

Here, the full text of Sen. Barack Obama’s speech, “A More Perfect Union,” as prepared for delivery:

“We the people, in order to form a more perfect union.”
Two hundred and twenty one years ago, in a hall that still stands across the street, a group of men gathered and, with these simple words, launched America’s improbable experiment in democracy. Farmers and scholars; statesmen and patriots who had traveled across an ocean to escape tyranny and persecution finally made real their declaration of independence at a Philadelphia convention that lasted through the spring of 1787.
The document they produced was eventually signed but ultimately unfinished. It was stained by this nation’s original sin of [+]EXPAND FULL STORY

This proves to be just one of many great speeches to come. If Obama gets voted in, we will finaly be able to listen to some sane speech, instead of the babblings of the idiot we have in office now. I would love to hear your opinions of Obamas speech!

So, is America too racist for Obama, or too sexist for Clinton?

It has become quite clear that the upcoming 2008 election is going to be very different than any other has been. From the moment the elections began, we all knew it. The outcome of the elections came back, and as the media jumped from Barack Obama of Ill. to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, it hit us like a pile of bricks. Only every few years does America get tested like this, to see what we really believe. The backgrounds and cultures of these two Democratic
candidates suggest that this may be another one of those tests. Which of the two's positions would be most favored by Americans? Is America ready for a woman or a black man as president? In other words, is America more racist, or sexist? Racism still exists, but along with this is the strong ambition to put it all behind us. Most people would agree that a presidents race would be looked upon more often than that presidents gender, and this is why Barack Obama was expected to win. But there have been unexpected twists and turns in this presidential race, and it has shaken up the outcome greatly. Most people expected women to vote for Hillary Clinton, just as we expected African-Americans to vote for Barack Obama. But this is not how it turned out. Some women voted for Clinton, and some did not. Likewise, not all black citizens voted for Obama. There has also been some questionable unwanted publicity
directed at Obama. Rumors of Barack Obama being a Muslim have flown all over. There have been false emails circulating since January 2007 accusing Obama of lieing about his true religious affiliation. Very recently there have been ideas poping up in different corners of the media suggesting that Barack Obamas church is racist, or that Obama himself is racist! After researching this topic, I found that it is NOT true. The church Obama attends, Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ, has set up a 12 point black value system. These points are:

1. Commitment to God
2. Commitment to the Black Community
3. Commitment to the Black Family
4. Dedication to the Pursuit of Education
5. Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence
6. Adherence to the Black Work Ethic
7. Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect
8. Disavowal of the Pursuit of “Middleclassness”
9. Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the Black Community
10. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening
and Supporting Black Institutions
11. Pledge allegiance to all Black leadership who espouse and embrace the Black Value System
12. Personal commitment to embracement of the Black Value System.

I found some posts on the "Free Republican" forum showing how they think of these points:

I’m not exactly sure what the “Black Value System” is. But I have a suspicion that whatever it is, it’s not too good for White Folks.

Replace Obama with an all-white candidate and change all the instances of the word “black” on this webpage to “white” and we have a candidate that couldn’t get elected dogcatcher in any community in America.

Their “black values systems” sounds divisive and racist.

They sound particularly embittered and that isn’t Christian.

Sounds like these folks have some mighty large chips on their shoulders.

Well, the things those people wrote about proves an old quote I once read. "A little learning is a dangerous thing."

Obama's response to the 12 points was this:

…Obama said it was important to understand the document as a whole rather than highlight individual tenets. “Commitment to God, black community, commitment to the black family, the black work ethic, self-discipline and self-respect,” he said. “Those are values that the
conservative movement in particular has suggested are necessary for black advancement.
“So I would be puzzled that they would object or quibble with the bulk of a document
that basically espouses profoundly conservative values of self-reliance and self-help….”
In his published memoirs, Obama said even he was stopped by Trinity’s tenet to disavow
“middleclassness” when he first read it two decades ago in a church pamphlet. The brochure implored upwardly mobile church members not to distance themselves from less fortunate Trinity worshipers. “As I read it, at least, it was a very simple argument taken directly from
Scripture: `To whom much is given much is required,’” Obama said in the interview. But Obama scoffed at the suggestion that Trinity espouses a value system that seeks to help blacks exclusively. “If I say to anybody in Iowa–white, black, Hispanic or Asian–that my church believes in the African-American community strengthening families or adhering to
the black work ethic or being committed to self-discipline and self-respect and not forgetting where you came from, I don’t think that’s something anybody would object to.

So, whats the bottom line? It seems to me like Barack Obama is the only one showing any leadership skills here. I think that if everyone could stop being so naive we wouldnt have these racial problems.
Ignorance is not always Bliss.

Until next time,
